Peter Patterson

Peter began his career in the print industry, including printing catalogues for a London based art gallery, Austin/Desmond, who specialised in British Contemporary Artists. This experience rekindled his interest in art from my childhood drawing and ‘paint by numbers’ Christmas presents!

Peter subsequently discovered a collection of work held in trust for the People of Basildon in Essex and became a Trustee of the Basildon Arts Trust, BAT. He pulled all the work together, created a record and a catalogue, and put the artwork into storage whilst BAT searched for a suitable showcase venue.

The local shopping centre, Eastgate, gifted BAT an empty unit where they could showcase the artwork, as well as artwork by local artists. In 5 months, they had nearly 50,000 people visit and view the trusts work, as well as local artists.

Due to this success, Peter decided to start his own art gallery in Barleylands Craft Village in Billericay, Essex.

He moved to East Sussex in 2014, and opened newartgallery in Alfriston.

In 2019 he felt the time was right to move into Eastbourne centre.

Michaele Wynn-Jones

Michaele has been a creative and a maker all her life. Her formal art training stopped at the age of 15 as her educators did not believe that art was a real subject.

She subsequently trained as a teacher and facilitated art in a variety of settings from mainstream schools to a mens' remand prison and in care homes.

In the winter of 2017 and again in 2018 she went to Bridge House Art in the North West Highlands of Scotland and finally got the art education she had always wanted. Since then she has painted, created and made things every day

Michaele is the current ‘artist in residence’ at newartgallery.

She very much welcomes interaction and enjoys arty conversation. Do pop in and say hello if you are in Eastbourne, and see what she has been making.
