— Ray Murphy —

Raymond Murphy was born in 1961 and has painted all his life, almost exclusively in oils.

Having had exhibitions at various locations in Essex his paintings have also been shown in Spain and the Canary Islands.

As a boy his influences were the Impressionist painters although he also takes inspiration from artists such as Edward Seago and particularly professor Ken Howard RA, whom he was able to spend time with early in 2011 when they discussed such subjects as tonal control and paintings in black and white.

Most of his work has been commission based but Raymond has recently accepted an invitation to be represented by New Art Gallery.

He says of his work.

I paint from ideas and images that are pleasing to the eye. I want the viewer to enjoy my work and take pleasure from it and ultimately when owning my work, to be able to view it every day even for just a few seconds and never be bored with it.

Although I have sometimes produced a small series of paintings of places such as Rome or Venice I generally prefer to produce one off ideas and not repeat myself. I feel this approach helps keep my artwork fresh and unique.
